Sanchita conducted a series of workshops asking the elders of St Hilda’s, young women at the Jagonari centre and the children of Thomas Buxton Junior School what images sprang to mind when they read the poem ‘Beware my Captain’, written by Kobi Nazrul Islam. The poem conveys the turbulence of a storm, being a metaphor for Bangladesh’s fight for independence. These paintings were inspired by the workshop participant’s ideas and thoughts. Medium: Acrylic on canvas / Size: 70x25 inches and 54x54 inches / Date: 2000-2002
